Padang is located on the western coast of Sumatra. It has an area of 694.96 square kilometres and a population of approximately 850,000 people.
Since the 16th century Padang has been a trade centre in West Sumatra and famous for the Padang food.

They grow staple crops such as rice, maize, peanut,soybean, and vegetable crops but products like orange, mango,mangosten, durian, rambutan, duku are also popular.
